ORDERING:
There are 4 ways to order a surfboard from us.
1st: By e-mail. This is NOT the best way. Some preliminary ideas
may be exchanged
using this option but there are no visual images unless you
can attach a JPEG photograph
or sketch. Still, final details may be ''iffy''.
2nd: By regular mail. You may print and fill out the ''Surfboard
Order Form'' found in this
section. Even though this is the slowest method, it may be a
helpful option if the order form
has color or special detailing and requires a photograph or
a color swatch. Even so, we
suggest that this method is followed by a phone call.
3rd: You may print and fill out the ''Surfboard
Order Form'' found in this section and fax
it to us. But remember that most fax machines only print images
in black and white. Again,
if there are any colors involved a photograph or color swatch
may be required. And just
as we mentioned in the second option above, a follow up phone
call may be necessary.
4th: By phone. As we've mentioned previously in this section,
we prefer to talk with you
in person in order to get things right. This ''phone call''
option is recommended along with
any of the other options. In the same manner as building surfboards
the old fashioned way,
we believe in treating your initial order the same way...talking
to you one-on-one.
DEPOSITS:
All custom surfboard orders require a 50% deposit at the time
the order is
placed. If payment is made by mail, we will process your order
when we receive your check
or money order. The final balance is due upon completion if
paid by credit card or at least
15 days before shipping if paid by check. Make checks payable
to LANCE CARSON
ADDITIONAL
CHARGES: Returned checks
are subject to a $25.00 returned check fee.
No C.O.D.'s on any of our surfboards. Surfboard prices do not
include packing and boxing
or shipping charges. Packing and boxing charges start at $ 35.00
for a single surfboard and
$ 20.00 per board when ordering 4 surfboards in one large box.
Packing and boxing costs
will be included on your surfboard invoice and will be prepaid
along with your surfboard before
shipping. Shipping charges will be paid separately by the customer
C.O.D. when surfboards
are picked up or delivered. If your board is to be delivered
to your local surf shop, make sure
that you have made arrangements in advance with your local retailer
regarding C.O.D. shipping
charges. Obviously, shipping charges will vary from state to
state. You may wish to discuss
this with your local retailer if he already has shipping arrangements
in place. In this case,
have him contact us to make the proper shipping arrangements.
Or you may wish to contact
us yourself and we can make the proper shipping arrangements
for you. Allow 6 to 8 weeks
for delivery. All prices are subject to change without notice.
SIGNATURES:
Any custom surfboard requiring the customers name and/or
signed by Lance
Carson must be accompanied by a 100% non-refundable deposit.
Absolutely no refunds or
exchanges on any surfboard carrying a custom signature after
the blank is shaped.
RETURNS:
In this section we've put a lot of emphasis on getting it right.
Another good
reason for this the hassle that will be involved should you
not be satisfied with your order
and decide to return your surfboard. When you receive the board
and upon receipt you
immediately realize that it's not exactly what you thought you
were going to get, you must
call us. At that time we'll give you return authorization if
applicable and discuss re-packing
and return shipping. We do not give refunds. Exchanges only
where applicable.. No
returns on boards damaged during original shipping. The customer
is responsible for
dealing with insurance matters. We will not take any returns
on surfboards once they
have been waxed for use. And as we mentioned before, there are
absolutely no refunds
on signed custom surfboards. The board must be received back
by us in it's original new
condition. Returns will not necessarily assure you of the original
full retail value for your
exchange. We reserve the right to put actual value estimates
on all returns only AFTER
we receive the returned surfboard. Lance Carson Surfboards will
consider all sales final if
not notified within 15 days of delivery date.
DISCLAIMER:
We are professionals. Lance Carson has been working in the surfing
industry
for about 40 years. And everyone who touches his surfboards,
all the way from shaping to
the glassing and finishing, are experts. We conform to and sometimes
exceed industry
standards. But sometimes there are problems, mostly on custom
orders. This is mainly
due to ''communication'' or the lack of it. By this we refer
to the different translations (or
industry slang) and the choice of words that each of us use
in describing the various features
of surfboards such as shape, rail and rocker contours. Some
of these descriptions are heard
frequently, on the beach as well as in surf shops. Some specific
examples of this are such
terms as ''traditional 3-stringer'' , ''egg rail'' , ''performance
model'' or ''60's longboard''. What
one surfer might envision as to how his new custom surfboard
should look will be completely
different from what his buddy might envision if they were to
order identical boards. For
example, a 3-stringer, traditional longboard may be thought
of by the first guy to be an egg
rail, moderate rocker, Volan glassed, single fin 60's style
longboard with 3 parallel redwood
stringers, usually 9 feet or longer for the average adult. But
his buddy might be expecting
to see a down rail, flat bottom, radical nose rocker, light
glass, off-the-lip 90's style longboard
that has a 60's appearance in cosmetics only. In such cases
where we followed our expertise
in industry standards, we have still heard comments such as,
''What is this? That's not what
ordered!'' So who is right??!!
Customers must be aware that these descriptions vary not only
from surfer to surfer but
also from surf shop to surf shop and even from shaper to shaper.
The customer should
also be aware that he cannot expect to bring his old board in
to a different shaper or manu-
facturer and expect the new board to come out the same. As a
matter of fact you may not
be able to have aboard duplicated by the same shaper. Remember!
This is a custom, hand
shaped surfboard. And even though we make it to your specifications
while following industry
guidelines, every custom surfboard is different!
With all these factors in mind we will try to work with our
customers by making a point to
check and double check all the details of your new board in
order to get it right the first time.
And if you prefer to order through your local surf shop, make
sure to check with the salesperson
regarding any descriptions and differences in detail factors.
Remember that this salesperson
may add his opinion to the mix as well, giving you even more
things to think about. We've
found that the best way to purchase a surfboard from a dealer
is to buy one right off the rack.
That way you can see exactly what you're getting. It isn't a
custom surfboard but it's the next
best thing. Please keep in mind that we want to leave nothing
to chance. So don't hesitate
to ask questions and we will do the same. By clarifying all
terminology we hope that your
surfing experience on your new L.C. will not just be ''kinda
cool'' but ''totally outrageous''!

US: In this section of our web site,

SHIPPING
SURFBOARDS (U.S. Only):
1) TERMINAL
TO TERMINAL: The first option that
we recommend is terminal to terminal
shipping because it's less expensive to ship from one major
city's terminal to another
rather than from our factory to your home. For example: If it
costs a certain rate to ship
from Los Angeles to New York, it could cost you that same amount
again (or more) to go
from New York City to any suburb in that area. Connecting rates
for residential deliveries
can become very costly. That is why our experience suggests
that customers take the time
to do their own pick ups unless you order your surfboard through
a local surf shop. Always
make sure that you open the board box and inspect your new surfboard
for possible damage
before you sign any delivery acceptance forms. This will save
you a lot of trouble and expense
later. You will have to pay all shipping fees when you accept
delivery of your surfboard. No
C.O.D.'s on surfboards themselves. All costs for surfboards
must be prepaid before shipping.
2) DOOR
TO DOOR: This is the most expensive method
because your surfboard is shipped
right to your front door. As mentioned above, the connecting
service from the shipping
company's terminal can cost as much or more than the flat shipping
rate to a major city
near to where you live. But this makes it easier for those who
can't facilitate their own pick
up. You will have to pay all shipping fees when you accept delivery
of your surfboard. No
C.O.D.'s on surfboards themselves. All costs for surfboards
must be prepaid before shipping.
3) FACTORY
TO RETAILER: This option might be
the best all around method of shipping.
Costs remain reasonable and you can make arrangements with your
local surf shop to accept
delivery. This way, you are dealing with someone who knows you
and the surfing industry.
Of course, it would be advisable to confirm any delivery arrangements
with your local surf
shop before any goods are shipped in order to avoid any last
minute embarrassment. Also,
make sure to discuss any C.O.D. shipping costs with the surf
shop or pay your shipping costs
to the shipping company in advance. No C.O.D.'s on surfboards
themselves. All costs for
surfboards must be prepaid before shipping.
INSURANCE:
Although we pack and box surfboards according to industry
standards, every
now and then damage may occur during shipping. Therefore we
highly recommend insurance
on all surfboard shipments. The cost is very reasonable...About
$ .75 per $ 100.00 worth of
value. We will be happy to assign insurance for you before we
ship. We also suggest that
in order to keep your insurance in force, open the surfboard
box at the time that you receive
it and inspect your surfboard for damage BEFORE you accept or
sign for delivery. It becomes
more difficult to have the insurance company honor your insurance
claim once you have
accepted or signed for delivery, especially if you have removed
the carton from the shipping
company terminal or from the local surf shop.
TRACKING:
Unless otherwise specified, our preferred shipping company for
all domestic
shipments in the continental U.S. is USF Worldwide. In our opinion
they have the best service
at the most reasonable rates. It is customary for us to obtain
a rate quote for you on shipping
as part of your total cost. We prefer to do this in the early
stages of discussing your order.
When your surfboard is being readied for shipping, we will issue
you a shipping/tracking
number to facilitate the progress of the shipment as well as
to help you during the pick up
of the board in your area.
